Hiking in the mountains with a child is nothing like a classic hike. Here, altitude changes everything: lifts remove the most discouraging part for a child, the climb, and drop you off right at the trailhead. The result: a 5-year-old can enjoy a panorama at 2,400 m without walking for more than 20 minutes.
Three things to remember before setting off: each trail is calibrated for a precise age and level, access is almost always by lift and the trails are waymarked and monitored just like the rest of the resort. No hiking experience needed, just good shoes and the right route.
As with any sport, having the right equipment is essential. Wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking, and opt for ankle boots for better support. Water and sun protection are a must, so make sure you pack enough! For your backpack, pay attention to the strap adjustment: a well-fitted backpack significantly reduces fatigue. It is also a good idea to bring a first aid kit, just in case.

Suitable from 3 years old, The Fayots Challenge is the gentlest family trail in the ski area. Starting from the top of Vallée Blanche, reached by the Vallée Blanche Telemix (gondola cabins or chairlift), the ascent is effortless. Once at the top, the 2 km loop becomes a giant playground, featuring five wooden challenges where children guide a giant marble through slides, spirals and fun obstacles. Allow around 1½ hours. Pushchairs are welcome, and the trail is fully signposted and safe.
Destination 3400 takes you to the Les 2 Alpes glacier via the Jandri cable car, followed by the underground funicular to 3,400 m. At the summit, discover the spectacular Ice Cave, with sculptures carved directly into the glacier, before crossing the iconic Écrins Belvedere suspension bridge, offering breathtaking 360° views over the Écrins National Park and Mont Blanc. The walk itself takes around 45 minutes, but allow 2 to 3 hours for the full experience, including transport and visits.
Les Balcons des Cimes is a beautiful panoramic walk that is perfect for the whole family. This easy trail offers spectacular views of the Les 2 Alpes glacier and the surrounding Alpine peaks while following a safe, gently graded route. An ideal hike for families wishing to discover the high mountains and enjoy exceptional scenery without any technical difficulty.
Les Cristalliers completes the family-friendly hiking offer for this age group. This easy and accessible walk can be enjoyed on its own or combined with the other trails in the area for a full day of mountain adventures.
Located at 2,400 m, the Chamois Trail starts directly from the top of the Diable Telemix, meaning the lift does all the climbing for you. The Apprentice Ibex Loop (1.5 km, around 45 minutes) is a gentle route, perfect for young children discovering mountain hiking for the first time. Along the way, educational panels introduce the local Alpine wildlife and flora.
Starting from the Diable Telemix, the Chamois Trail also features the Master Chamois Loop (1.5 km), a slightly more adventurous route for children looking to take their mountain experience a step further. With more exposed sections, this trail offers excellent opportunities to spot chamois and enjoy stunning views over the Vénéon Valley.
For children who are confident walkers and comfortable with heights, several additional hiking routes are available on the Les 2 Alpes Summer Trail Map. These can be combined to create longer outings, depending on the family's experience, fitness level and the day's ambitions.
