DVA Park 2 Alpes: practice avalanche safety in the resort

Because mountain safety is never optional, Les 2 Alpes resort offers a dedicated training area: the DVA Park 2 Alpes.
This educational facility allows everyone — skiers, hikers, or freeriders — to learn the right reflexes in case of an avalanche and to test their equipment.

What is the Park avalanche transceiver in Les 2 Alpes?

DVA stands for Détecteur de Victime d’Avalanche — or Avalanche Victim Detector (transceiver).

The DVA Park at Les 2 Alpes is a training and awareness area focused on avalanche risk prevention.
It allows participants to practice searching for buried victims using a simple and effective setup.

The goal is to acquire the right reflexes and become familiar with safety equipment in order to react quickly in a real situation.
It’s also an opportunity to check that your gear is working properly, even if you’re already experienced.

This initiative reflects the resort’s ongoing commitment to mountain safety and responsible freeride practice.

Location and access to the DVA Park

The DVA Park 2 Alpes is located at the top of the Bellecombe chairlift, within the ski area.
The site is clearly marked on the piste map and easily accessible via the lifts.

The park is open throughout the winter, depending on snow conditions, and access is free of charge.
It’s a must-visit for anyone looking to learn or improve avalanche search skills.

How the Park avalanche transceiver works

The DVA Park simulates the conditions of a real avalanche search.
Several electronic beacons are buried under the snow and connected to a control system.

Once the simulation starts, participants must use their avalanche transceiver (DVA) to locate the signals, then use a probe to pinpoint their exact position as quickly as possible.
As soon as your probe touches a beacon, it automatically deactivates. (Do not dig them out with your shovel!)

This setup offers a realistic and safe environment for practice, allowing users to measure their search time and progress effectively through hands-on learning.

Who is the DVA Park intended for?

The DVA Park Les 2 Alpes is open to everyone:

  • Freeriders and off-piste skiers wishing to improve their avalanche safety skills.

  • Ski tourers and snowshoers who often travel through unmarked terrain.

  • Families and groups wanting to raise collective awareness about mountain safety.

This diversity makes the DVA Park an inclusive and complementary training tool for all snow sports enthusiasts.

Access requirements and necessary equipment

Access to the DVA Park 2 Alpes is free and open, no booking required.

However, participants must have their own avalanche safety equipment:

  • A DVA (avalanche transceiver)

  • A probe

This equipment can be rented directly in resort at sports shops, the guides’ office, or ski schools, which also organize introductory training sessions at the site.

Educational objectives and benefits of the DVA Park

The DVA Park 2 Alpes aims to prevent mountain accidents and prepare riders for off-piste adventures under the safest possible conditions.

Training at the park helps you:

  • Learn to react quickly in the event of an avalanche

  • Develop essential survival reflexes

  • Strengthen team coordination in an emergency situation

  • Master the use of your avalanche transceiver to improve efficiency

This type of training is an ideal preparation before joining a guided freeride session or setting out on a ski tour independently.

The DVA Park is therefore a practical, hands-on tool for all mountain enthusiasts concerned about safety.

Tip: Stop by the safety post at the top of the Bellecombe chairlift to speak with the ski patrol. They can provide extra information or even a short on-site demonstration if available.
